The Project Summary:
The project was born out of the experience of the usage of the most diffuse methodologies of language teaching very often, reproduce traditional scholastic methods and usually reveal to be inadequate to this particular target and can generate frustration and make every activity useless. Cultural approaches are often responsible of failures but also social conditions contribute. One of the problems most English learners have to face is the practice of their oral skills. That is why all the partners in the group have agreed to create a tool that facilitates learners support and opportunities to improve their oral competence.
Through the practice of oral activities that we create we can contribute to the improvement of oral competence and at the same time to make the learners reflect about social and personal problems shared by European citizens.
Our partnership will consist of creating Problem-based learning (PBL) oral activities based on topics connected to learners’ interests, no matter their different background and needs. These (PBL)and oral activities in our workshops will be the base for interaction among learners(e-learning and blended learning) from different institutions The topics for debate, role-play and discussion will be related to social challenges and changes faced by Europe as a whole and to issues which affect all citizens in the Union, regardless of their origin, social background or their age. At an advanced stage ,the participants will also be brought together for the purpose of a “live” simulation in short drama plays and the target of offering also the participants the opportunity to meet and speak face to face about all the matters that have been dealt with within the on line learning community.Via meeting and speaking face to face about all the matters in intercultural communication, the participants will produce a CD including the interviews of their intercultural ,personal dialogues and their short drama plays and music concerts .A workshop in critical training skills and will be introduced by Italian staff to new approaches for delivering powerful training and lessons.
The acquisition of a great awareness of those conditions and approaches, the observation of their effects on the performances of learning process actors will allow us to make more creative such space (improving tools and methodologies), aiming to encourage adults to learn, to strength an effective language learning and teaching and fostering a multilingual and inclusive environment. Coming from such different countries and organizations, we believe that our exchange of best practises and experiences in adult education could also have very inspiring and fruitful results in intercultural dialogue.
Especially the learners will have better motivation in learning when they have a chance to use their knowledge of foreign languages and ICT in authentic context with partners from other countries, to put into practise skills and personal experiences, to make an own product which can be used by everybody. New experiences and knowledge concerning the usage of computers will be transferred by staff and students into extracurricular situations and will be used for life long learning. The learners are highly motivated in comparing their lifestyles, changing ideas about their problems and dilemmas, about their hobbies and specific cultural differences. Our motto is ; play a part ,get involved!
We will also focus on cosmopolitan communication which is a form of communication that helps people to build on their similarities to explore and enjoy their differences through all communication channels to enrich everyday interactions .
To reach these objectives we want to analyse as deep as it is possible the needs of our learners but also the needs of teachers/trainers; we want to share our good practices with creative and innovative ways in teaching and learning foreign Language especially English,, try to find answers to common problems.
This exchange of experiences, methods and practices tends to define and to learn about the cultural diversity of societies in Europe for a better understanding.
As known ,languages can be an enjoyable and lifelong pursuit. Language learning offers a range of benefits, from personal development, to improving the experience of travel, to opening up new career opportunities .Especially English has unmistakably achieved global status as the world's lingua franca .Many adults contacting withour staff express their interest in continued language learning but do not turn it into practice because of traditional grammar translation methods .So we will try to use many ways in learning English as a second language to make learning of it become easier and more joyful. One of them is by utilizing a computer as a medium which can help us learn English effectively or what we usually call it as Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL).
